Kendall County Economic Development Corporation Receives the TEDC 2008 CEDA Award for Exceptional Business Expansion and Retention
Resounding Success of Albany Expansion Project Earns Kendall County EDC Prestigious Award from Texas Economic Development Council
Boerne, TX - September 30, 2008 - The Kendall County Economic Development Corporation (EDC) today announced that it was selected as the winner in its category of the Texas Economic Development Council's 2008 Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) for its leadership role in the expansion of Albany Engineered Composites in Boerne.
CEDA was established in 1995 to recognize exceptional contributions of TEDC member cities and counties toward the economic vitality of their communities and the state of Texas through creativity, leadership and partnership in the achievement of business retention, business recruitment and community improvement.
The Kendall County EDC nominated the City of Boerne for the CEDA award for the successful, measurable tactics the EDC and Boerne implemented during the competition for the Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) expansion, including:
- Innovativeness. The Kendall County EDC went above and beyond to create a more diverse, knowledgeable and committed team than any of the competitors for the AEC expansion.
- Transferability. The components of the Kendall County EDC's successful program for Albany, including a well-rounded team, incentives, commitment, cooperation and innovative ideas, are models for future EDC projects.
- Community commitment and leverage. The Kendall County EDC focused on including the voice of the community every step of the way, and also worked with the City of Boerne to accommodate Albany's unique needs before the deal was closed. Community leaders in both the public and private sectors played an important role on the EDC's ad hoc committee for the project.
- Measurable objectives. The AEC expansion will bring 337 new jobs to Boerne, TX and $42 million in capital improvement over the next seven years. This is the largest capital investment and job initiative in the history of Boerne and Kendall County.
- Ancillary benefits. The expansion of AEC will result in many secondary benefits, including a more well-rounded tax base; growth for retail, hospitality and housing; and the creation of additional jobs to support these growing businesses.
"We owe this success to everyone that contributed and participated on the committee including the city, county and state representatives and community leaders who worked tirelessly with the EDC to create a winning proposal and incentives package," said Steve Mack, chairman of the board, Kendall County EDC. "The Albany Engineered Composites team has been an incredibly valuable partner and is committed to being a socially responsible corporate citizen of Kendall County. We look forward to strengthening our relationship in the future as Albany continues to flourish in the City of Boerne."
The TEDC's CEDA committee received applications from 27 member communities. "Each community nominated achieved excellence in economic development and substantially improved the economic base of their respective regions," said Mike McKinney of Dallas, 2008 TEDC Chair. "The recipient communities in each population category were recognized for extraordinary accomplishments in meeting the criteria set forth in the nomination process."
