Build Green! Buy Green!
On Thursday, September 25, 2008 the Kendall County EDC hosted an introductory seminar into Green Building for the Texas Hill Country regarding residential and commercial construction and architectural design. Approximately 40 guests were in attendance with professionals representing builders, architects, designers, and engineers for the region. Phillip Bell, KCEDC Board of Director and local commercial realtor with ReMax and Associates, organized the event.
When asked about the seminar Bell stated, "The City of Boerne has set the pace for small communities across Texas with their vision of Going Green. Likewise, Kendall County has been aggressive establishing parks for all to enjoy, while at the same time addressing development issues as the area continues to grow." Bell went on the say, "The concept of building green revolves around water and energy conservation which is not only for financial consideration but a social responsibility. We have the talent and the interest in our community to set the example for others to follow."
A presentation was given by Chip Henderson, local architect/engineer, regarding LEED Certification. Solar San Antonio Executive Director, Bill Barker, gave a presentation on Solar Energy and John Kight, local retired engineer, gave a Rainwater Harvesting presentation. Green Building presentations were presented by David Fransik, Sierra Homes builder, and Darrell McMaster, Sustainable Homes builder. LCRA representative, Ti Mougne, gave a brief speech regarding programs that LCRA offers for energy conservation. Jim Colton of Green Star spoke on LED lighting. Special guests in attendance included City of Boerne Mayor Dan Heckler and Kendall County Judge Gaylan Schroeder. Representatives from Bandera Electric Cooperative, Central Texas Electric Cooperative and Pedernales Electric Cooperative were also present.
